The Rise of Surrealism

The modern art movement of Surrealism was established in the 1920’s. Surrealist works include visual art works and writings. Common properties that Surrealist works share is the element of surprise, the ability to redefine and the ability to twist reality.

Surrealism is constructed from different philosophical and psychological ideology. The individuals that adapted the use of philosophy and psychology to include it in painting and poetry were the likes of André Breton, Jacques Vaché and Max Ernst.

The establishment of Surrealism occurred after World War I. Writers and artists scattered from Paris during the war and many became involved in the Dada modern art.

André Breton (soon to be Surrealist Leader) was part of the Dada modern art movement. He was a trained psychiatrist.
Breton discovered the writings of Sigmund Freud and used them to cure shell shocked soldiers.

Breton met a young writer named Jacques Vaché who was opposed to established artistic tradition. Breton’s Dadaist writings soon started to contain Surrealist imagery using the findings and views of Sigmund Freud.

Other artists and writers caught onto the ideologies of Surrealism. Such artists included: Max Ernst, Man Ray, Hans Arp, Salvador Dali, Yves Tanguy, Joan Miró and Paul Éluard.

The main Freudian concept used in Surrealism was the use of dream analysis. Dreams were analysed by the artists and writers, then translated into art and poetry.

The Surrealist group aimed to free people from false rationality and the restrictions that established cultural ideologies forced upon the people. Surrealism aimed to expand people’s acceptance of reality and to question reality.

Caricature Drawing And Retirement.

What began as a hobby, has become a full-time obsession. I refuse to refer to drawing as a "job", that would defeat the original purpose of what I do.
It started as a search for some part-time way of augmenting Social Security. I needed enough additional income to keep the wolves away and facilitate my being able to focus exclusively on art; the fulfillment of a life-long dream.
For the past three years, I have been making the transition from my previous life as a mental health counselor to that of a semi-retired caricature artist. It has been one heck of a trip, but well worth the time and effort.
I feel very comfortable saying to one and all that I have now made it to where I had always wished and hoped I could someday be. My list of art clients number in the many hundreds and include orders from not only nearly every State in the Union, but also from a dozen foreign countries as well.
I have divested myself of the stressful routine of being a full-time counselor, working at a busy community-based mental health facility. There are no more staff meetings, schedules or mountains of paperwork to deal with. I now spend my days at home in my studio, listening to vintage rock'n roll music and creating caricatures from photos people send me.
I'm not getting rich, but I am comfortable and, more importantly, much more at ease with myself and the world. I have succeeded in making retirement a truly "golden" experience that has rejuvenated my spirit and replenished my hope for the future.
I strongly encourage anyone who is contemplating what to do with themselves in their later years, those who do not necessarily see themselves fishing or playing golf until they're planted, to consider a similar course. Turn your hobby or latent passion into the means to a happier, more productive retirement.

For years I have been outsourcing a lot of my graphics as I was not much good at designing and graphics. I had a copy of Adobe Photoshop and opened it a few times only to be put off by its complexity.

My graphic artist was on holidays for a week and I needed a graphic quickly. I wanted to get a picture of a dolphin flying out of a picture which I had seen somewhere before. This was for an add I was doing up for a local magazine for one of my products.

***Second, technical education . Regardless of physical advantages, understanding of the ideal movements and resulting positions can be obtained from an educated teacher, books, and the many DVD's available to all through internet stores. There is no restriction on our access to information.

***Third, a teacher who not only has decent credentials, but who has the required habit of demanding correctness in class. This is a variable, and inexperienced teachers do not realize how often they are going to repeat the same old correction over the years of training, to the same students.... in a million different imaginative ways, and with appreciation for your own uniqueness too.

***Fourth, knowing that there is cross-training that will help you compensate for your physical shortcomings. If you are less flexible than you would like to be, there is Pilates, massage, or Yoga. If you are flexible but weak in some areas, Pilates, and weight training will help.

***Fifth, knowing where more details count - if your habit is curiosity, that's a huge asset. If it's not, adopt it. Studying anatomy and kinesiology is a plus. (I know you already have homework or a job, or family obligations, but hey, if you are serious about dance, all this is just more fun, right?)

***Sixth, coordinating your knowledge of your physiology, and how you might be compensating detrimentally to get the deepest demi-plie and best take-off that you can, and instead compensate more with cross-training and less with bad habits. It's only a life-long process, don't get discouraged.

***Seven, a truly habitual appreciation of your own uniqueness, talents, intelligence, and determination. There will always be an invitation to doubt yourself, envy others' real or imagined superiority, and waste time thinking negative thoughts.

Proper rest and good nutrition have a lot to do with #7. Body and brain fatigue, and nutritional deficiencies are directly related to mood. Please be curious and get the information you need.

Video games are not an addiction

Doctors backed away from a controversial proposal to designate video game addiction as a mental disorder akin to alcoholism, saying psychiatrists should study the issue more.

Addiction experts also strongly opposed the idea at a debate at the American Medical Association’s annual meeting. They said more study is needed before excessive use of video and online games — a problem that affects about 10% of players — could be considered a mental illness.

“There is nothing here to suggest that this is a complex physiological disease state akin to alcoholism or other substance abuse disorders, and it doesn’t get to have the word addiction attached to it,” said Dr Stuart Gitlow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine and Mt Sinai School of Medicine in New York.
A committee of the influential physicians’ group had proposed video game addiction be listed as a mental disorder in the American Diagnostic and Statistic Manual of Mental Disorders, a guide used by the American Psychiatric Association in diagnosing mental illness. Such a move would ease the path for insurance coverage of video game addiction.

Even before debate on the subject began, the committee that made the proposal backed away from its position, and instead recommended that the American Psychiatric Association consider the change when it revises its next diagnostic manual in five years. The psychiatrist group has said if the science warrants, it could be considered for inclusion in the next diagnostic manual, which will be published in 2012.

History of Muay Thai or Thai Boxing

The Siamese developed their own writing system in the early 1200s which makes it difficult to obtain information on the early history of Thailand as well as Muay Thai. It is known that martial arts resembling Muay Thai have long been practiced throughout much of Southeast Asia. The origin of the Muay Thai can be traced back to the older Muay Boran ("ancient boxing"). This was the form of unarmed combat probably used by Siamese soldiers in conjunction with Krabi Krabong, the weapon-based style[1]. Since Thai culture was based on that of India, China and Cambodia, they would have had an influence on local martial arts. Indian boxing arts such as Adithada remarkably resemble both Muay Boran and Muay Thai and it has been said that every move in Muay Thai has a similar equivalent in Shaolin kung fu. Muay Boran was divided to: Muay Korat (Northeast) emphasized strength. A technique like "Throwing Buffalo Punch" was used. It could supposedly defeat a buffalo in one blow.
Muay Lopburi (Center region) emphasized movements. Its strong points were straight and counter punches.
Muay Chaiya (South) emphasized posture and defense, as well as elbows and knees.
Muay Pra Nakorn (North) emphasized speed, particularly in kicking. Because of its faster speed, it was called as well "Ling Lom" (windy monkey or Loris).
There is a phrase about Muay Boran that states, "Punch Korat, Wit Lopburi, Posture Chaiya, Faster Thasao. (หมัดหนักโคราช ฉลาดลพบุรี ท่าดีไชยา ไวกว่าท่าเสา)". It was from all these regional styles that the more general term Muay Thai (Thai boxing) was developed.

It grew in popularity among common people, so much so that it was said that any man worth his salt would practice the art. As well as continuing to function as a practical fighting technique for use in actual warfare, it became a sport in which the exponents fought in front of spectators who went to watch for entertainment. This kind of muay contests gradually became an integral part of local festivals and celebrations, especially those held at temples.It was used as entertainment to kings.

Royal Muay
Muay gradually became a possible means of personal advancement as the nobility increasingly esteemed skillful practitioners of the art and invited selected fighters to come to live in the Royal palace to teach muay to the staff of the royal household, soldiers, princes or the king's personal guards.

Some time during the Ayutthaya Period, a platoon of royal guards was established, whose duty was to protect king and the country. They were known as Grom Nak Muay (Muay Fighters' Regiment). This royal patronage of muay continued through the reigns of Rama V and VII.


The Muay Renaissance
The accession of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) to the throne in 1868 ushered in a Golden Age not only for muay but for the whole country. Muay progressed greatly during the reign of Rama V as a direct result of the king's personal intrest in the art. The country was in peace and muay functioned as a means of physical exercise, self-defense, recreaction and personal advancement.


Legendary Heros
Nai Khanom Tom was a famous practitioner of Muay Thai. Around 1774, he was captured along with other Thai prisoners, either in a skirmish or at the fall of the ancient capital of Siam of Ayutthaya. He was brought to Rangoon in Burma, where the Burmese King Mangra was holding a religious festival in honor of Buddha's relics. The festivities included many forms of entertainment. King Mangra was reported to be curious to see how the various fighting styles of Burma and other countries would compare. At one point, he wanted to see how Muay Boran would compare to the Burmese art Lethwei. Nai Khanomtom was selected to fight against the Burmese champion. Nai Khanomtom did a Wai Kru pre-fight dance which puzzled all of the Burmese. When the fight began, he charged out and using punches, kicks, elbows, and knees, quickly pummeled the Burmese.

The referee was reported to have stated that the Burmese opponent was distracted by the Wai Kru, so the knockout was invalid. The King then asked if Nai Khanomtom would fight nine other Burmese champions to prove himself. He agreed and fought them all, one after the other with no rest periods between fights. The last Burmese was reputed to be a great boxing teacher. Nai Khanomtom defeated them all in a superior fashion.

King Mangra was so impressed that he remarked, "Every part of the Thai is blessed with venom. Even with his bare hands, he can fell nine or ten opponents. As his lord master was incompetent, the country was lost to the enemy. If his lord had been any good, there was no way the City of Ayutthaya would ever have fallen."

He granted Nai Khanomtom freedom along with either riches or two beautiful Burmese wives. Nai Khanomtom chose the wives as he said that money was easier to find. He then departed with his wives for Siam. Other variations of this story had him also winning the release of his fellow Thai prisoners. His feat is celebrated every March 17 as "Boxer's Day" or "National Muay Thai Day" in his honor and that of Muay Thai's.

Today, some have wrongly attributed the legend of "Nai Khanomtom" to the King Naresuan, who was also once taken by the Burmeses.

PSP Game Download: How To Play Game Save?

There are places where you can downlod free PSP game save . These save game files can then be transferred to your PSP, and you can play the game from your PSP’s memory stick. Assuming you have obtained a game save (either you or your friend had save it earlier or you download free psp game save from somewhere), all you need to do is to follow the simple steps outlined below to start playing the games again.

What You Need To Have :

PSP Console
Memory Stick Duo (enough space to hold your game save file)
Save game archive file
USB Mini cable
PC running Windows with a free USB port

Step 1: Unzip Your Game Save File.

You can get game save fordifferent sources. It can be the game you have saved to emergency purposes.
Make Sure You Have Your Game Save File in your computer already. If the Game Save is in ZIP format, you need to unzip the file.
After unzip, you will see a folder looks like:
"ULJM05006_DATA" (this is just a sample only, the actual name could be different).

Step 2: Connect Your PSP To Your PC.

Once properly connected, you need to use File Explorer to go into the PSP folder of your PSP. Just like exploring any folders in your PC. At the top level, you should see these folders:
MP_ROOT, PSP

You need to go into "PSP" folder. In there, you will see these folders:
GAME, MUSIC, PHOTO, SAVEDATA

Go into "SAVEDATA"

Step 3: Copy The Game Save Into The "SAVEDATA" Folder of Your PSP.

You will have to copy your game save into this folder. Go back to where you have unzipped the game save. In this example, the sub-folder name is “ULJM05006_DATA”. Highlight the whole sub-folder and “copy” and paste inside the SAVEDATA folder.

You need to be careful not to over-write any sub-folders inside the SAVEDATA folder. For example, you you already have "ULJS00002" and you game save name is the same, make sure you do not over-write it. Rename the original sub-folder first before you copy over.

Here you are. All Done! Disconnect your USB and you are ready to play the game on you PSP. You should be able to go into your PSP game console and load your game from SAVEDATA.
